Understanding the Normalization & Cut-off Determination
As per the official notification guidelines, marks scored in General Studies Paper-I alone are considered for determining the merit order and cut-off list for shortlisting candidates for the Civil Services (Main) Examination. General Studies Paper-II (CSAT) is strictly a qualifying paper where candidates are required to secure a minimum threshold of 33% (i.e. 66 marks out of 200). If a candidate fails to score 33% in Paper-II, their Paper-I answer sheet is evaluated, but they cannot qualify regardless of their Paper-I marks.
Next Steps for Shortlisted Aspirants: DAF-1 and Mains Strategy
Candidates whose roll numbers appear in the qualified list must complete their Detailed Application Form-I (DAF-I). In the DAF-I, candidates are required to provide their educational qualifications, parental background, higher education achievements, state cadre preferences, and choice of Optional Subject for the 9 subjective descriptive papers of the Mains examination. AimIndia provides dedicated subject discussion circles and topper answer review groups to support aspirants through this rigorous phase.
